Fist yoga practice:
About twelve years ago my mum introduced me to yoga. My first class was an Iyengar practice with the legendary Mandy White
Treating myself means:
Treating myself usually means alone time. I am naturally an active person (physically and mentally) so treating myself to some zen time, a facial/massage or just reading a book in the sunshine.
Favourite yoga style:
My favourite style is vinyasa flow. With a dance background, I feel this style incorporates both.
Favourite yoga pose:
My favourite pose at the moment is urdva dhanurasana or wheel. I love the way you feel after a backbend, you are totally revitalised. For me, a backbend is a simple reset button as it stimulates the respiratory, digestive and cardiovascular systems. If I am feeling an afternoon slump this is my 'go to pose'.
This is a tough one, I love too many food groups to choose one. My mum makes this 'bread' and it's too good not to share. I recommend it toasted with avo.
Favourite travel destination:
There are so many magical places, I feel like I have only just scratched the surface when it comes to travel. A place that really resonated with me was Oaxaca in Mexico, it's a gorgeous little colourful town five hours south of Mexico City. The people, the culture, the landscape, the food, the list goes on.
Another notable destination would be Morocco, it opened my eyes to a different way of life. That is the beauty of travel you are so captivated by your surroundings. We are such habitual creatures (I am often guilty of this), travel helps you break your mould and open your mind to new ways of being.
WHAT YOGA HAS MEANT TO NIKITA
The practice of yoga for me has enabled me to feel content within myself and my pace of life. I am passionate about encouraging my students to tap into this state of mind. There really is so much more to yoga than the physical poses. The poses are a gateway to connect the mind to the body on one harmonious frequency. I believe this is what sets yoga apart from other forms of physical practice.
