Fist yoga practice:

I have practiced yoga casually for years and it is something I have always enjoyed. My connection with yoga was taken one step further one year ago when I moved from New Zealand to Singapore and decided to make practice a daily part of my life.

I left behind six years in a corporate job where I had worked since graduating from university. With the help of yoga, I was able to really invest in myself, understand where my passion lay and where my career was headed next. It was through my regular yoga practice, and during this time in a new place that I was able to clear my head and really hone in on my passion..

Treating myself means:

A yoga session followed by a wholefood fuelled brunch date, a walk or bike ride exploring with friend(s). I love getting out and spending time in nature or by the beach (ocean swims & soaking up Vitamin D with a good book or magazine!) I also love spending time with my friends and family!

Favourite yoga style and pose:

I love variety! I am currently practicing at a studio which offers a huge range of yoga styles – meditation, yin yang, iyengar, chair and ariel yoga, yoga therapy, hot yoga (just to name a few!). Each day I mix it up, but a usual week will consist of at least one iyengar class (which provides a focus on basic asanas to ensure correct alignment), two hatha yoga classes, two vinyassa yoga classes, one ashtanga class, one yoga therapy (meditation) and I loooovee a yin yang class so I try to do a couple per week. I like a mix of both challenging and restorative classes while I am constantly learning and exploring more about yoga.

Favourite snack:

Oooh I have a few but one of my favourite beverages at the moment is my choc-ollagen smoothie, it tastes like a dessert but is packed with an abundance of health benefits. I currently cant get enough of Medjool dates so no surprises my favourite beverage incorporates them!

Favourite holiday destination:

I love travelling and cannot pinpoint one particular favourite travel destination but somewhere that is warm and tropical, ideally near the beach or nature. I love the Gold Coast in Australia for a mid-winter escape- beautiful beaches, great shopping, excellent food options and yoga studios! India is a standout spot, which will always be special, as this is where I did my YTT200 course. It is an incredible country with so much to offer- a lot of culture to experience, interesting food and so much hidden beauty within the country…oh and the Taj Mahal is stunning! WOW!

Yoga initially improved my flexibility, muscle strength, stress relief, focus, balance and physical fitness, downward facing dog positioning (just to name a few!). But, it also connected me to spirituality through self-actualisation - a sense of fulfilling my potential.

Yoga offers self-reflection, the practice of kindness and self-compassion, and continued growth and self-awareness.

Yoga has inspired me in numerous ways. The physical shift would be connecting my mind, body and spirit to become more mindful which has come with many benefits.
